19 Crimes & Counting

Disclaimer: I first have to say that the following post is entirely an opinion based piece. I haven’t done extensive research to any degree other than the same amount as I’m assuming any “non-watcher” and general internet surfer has done. This is my creative outlet to rant my thoughts away. I guess I could advise you to stop reading if you condone rape.

As I’m sure you’ve heard, the eldest Duggar child, Josh (from 19 Kids & Counting) has recently become the topic that is sweeping my Facebook feed away. I often keep an open mind when evaluating situations. I’m not usually a black or white type of person. I always feel like everything falls into the grey area. But there are a few things in this world that [in my opinion] are simply black and white. This, being one of them.

What is comes down to is that Josh Duggar committed sexual acts [years ago] with younger children some of whom included sisters. He apparently was 14 at the time. Now, I don’t know who or how or why anyone would believe that this happened only in the year 14. But 14 is the age they’re telling us. Anyways, he, his parents, and even his wife released public statements within the last day or so expressing their love for God, noting that the horrible choices Josh made, made them closer as a family…yadda, yadda, yadda.

I want to clarify here, that this post and my rant has nothing to do with their love for God or their religion. I, myself have been working on becoming closer to God, becoming more spiritual. God plays a huge part in my life. I look to him when I’m in need and when I’m thankful. I’m not a preacher of any kind of faith by any kind of means and never will claim to be. I believe that there is a higher power and I know that I feel more at ease and am a better person when I surround myself with positive and uplifting energy. With that being said, I’ll continue..

It has been announced that TLC pulled 19 Kids & Counting from the network and rightfully so. After all, didn’t A&E pull Duck Dynasty for being stupid? I don’t agree with the Robertson’s stance on homosexuality but I did like the show. So why are people getting so upset that TLC pulled 19 Kids & Counting? Is it that surprising? I don’t blame them.

I’m glad they pulled it. And what the fuck is with people saying they feel sorry for the parents, Jim Bob and Michelle? According to the reports, they knew about their sons actions an entire year before doing anything about it. Why? It even seems that there was a police report filed but nothing seems to have been done other than sending him to work on houses? Oh, so now manual labor “fixes” rapist perverts? Fuck. That. Just because he was 14 doesn’t mean he should get off and be given a set of nails and a hammer. There should be repercussions to actions. I recognize that he’s [just now] taking responsibility for his actions but what about the victims? His sisters? My God.

I know I may sound incredibly ignorant because I believe everything I read in the media or because I’m being an asshole right now. Some might call me foolish because I’m letting some reality show issue upset me. But sexual assault, no matter your age, is sexual assault. This topic makes me sick and what makes it worse is that his family is putting out this positive vibe, forgiving, we’re closer because of it shit. I don’t buy it.
